All cultural events around Lake Neusiedl can be reached easily from Illmitz. The Operetta Festival in Mörbisch in summer (July and August) can be reached by ferry - an elegant option. The western shore of the lake is reached after a 20-minute long relaxing journey, after which you can enjoy the operetta spectacle on the lake-stage.

Opera lovers are drawn year after year to the Opera Festival at St. Margarethen. The amazing natural stage is the setting for masterpieces from Verdi to Puccini (http://www.ofs.at).
Shining lights of the opera scene love the wildly romantic location in one of the loveliest wine regions on the lake. In June there is a special children
’s opera for the younger fans.
The capital of the province of Burgenland is the city of Eisenstadt. From Illmitz, Eisenstadt is best reached by car or bus. After about an hour’s journey, one is greeted by the magnificent Esterházy Palace in all its glory. Fans of Joseph Haydn stream in droves to hear his music at the Palace in September during the “International Haydn Days” (http://www.haydnfestival.at).
The Nova Rock Festival (http://www.novarock.at) in Nickelsdorf has made its name across Europe. Superstars the world over feel at home on the “Pannonian Fields”. This is a must for music freaks.

Other attractions worth seeing, beside the Esterházy Palace, are the Haydn House, the baroque Halbturn Palace, the Mönchhof Village Museum, the Basilica in Frauenkirchen, the Traditional House in Mörbisch am See, the Provincial Museum in Eisenstadt, the “Infeld” House of Culture in Halbturn, as well as numerous galleries, churches, cloisters and excavations.
Children love Lake Neusiedl. Fritz Fürstlich, the noble bat, has always been at home in the Ersterházy Palace and offers tours for children and those adults who have stayed young at heart. The Fairytale Theme Park in St. Margarethen and “Papageno’s Opera World” in the Roman quarry of St. Margarethen are also popular spots for kids.
